A guide for Year 7s.

How to Reference

A correctly formatted reference list forms an important part of your assessment in HASS as it allows your teacher to see where you research comes from. We use a referencing system called APA 7th. 

There are several components to a reference. These may include:

  • Author
  • Date of publication
  • Title
  • Source of the information e.g. a URL

These components are organised in a certain way, depending on the type of information you have used in your research. See the examples below:

Reference List Example

Have a look at the example below to see what a finished reference list looks like. Each individual reference is placed in alphabetical order by the author, or corporate author's name. 

It doesn't matter what type of information you have used, they all go in the same list. You DO NOT need to separate your list into books, websites and databases. 

Using Citemaker

At Trinity, we subscribe to a referencing generator called Citemaker, which puts together references using this system. You can find this on the front of the Library Homepage, or in the list of databases. Look for this icon:
